Maths Affirmation

The affirmation I have looked at is to learn my 6,7 and 8 times tables. I have clicked on the here internet link and played the timestables game. I played baseball, spaceships and the maths magician game which were cool. I then did a test and I got 10 out of 10 wow i'm pleased.

Making my model

I enjoyed making my model because it was fantastic and fun to see everybody enjoying theirselves. I made it from cardboard and then I painted it black and yellow. It was good to be able to use my imagination and then put my thoughts into practice.
If I were to do a model again I would change the length and I would draw a plan before I do it so I would have a guide to follow.

Ancient Greece Project

Ancient Greece

Introduction

The Ancient Greeks were great builders, thinkers, philosophers and soilders who all spoke the smae language and believed in the same gods.

Food

The Ancient Greeks ate grains, wheat, barley, vegetables, fruit and bread. they grew a lot of their own food and kept goats for milk and cheese. They grew olives for oil, grapes for wine and whaet for bread. They also ate fish and seafood.

They ate plenty of fresh fruit and vegatables in the summer. In the winter time thay ate dried fruit and foods which they had stored. The greeks grew their own grapes which they used to make wine which they drank alot.

Ancient Greeks who lived near to the sea ate a lot of fish.
The Ancient greeks felt that eating a dead animal was wrong so very rarely ate meat.

Housing

The Ancient Greeks lived in houses built from stone, wood or clay and had one or two storeys. The roofs had tiles or reeds and the floors were tiled to keep the rooms cool.

The men and women lived in different parts of the house. Women had the back and upstairs. The houses were planned around a courtyard where greek family life was centred. The houses had 2 or 3 rooms.

Clothing

Greek babies mostly wore nothing, if they did wear anything it was only a nappy. Greek children wore cloth wrapped round their middles like shorts.

Men wore a tunic made of wool or linen over one shoulder. They wore a wool cloak or blanket over the tunic. They had bare legs and most of the time bare feet. When they did wear shoes they were leather sandels.

Women wore one large piece or wool or linen which was wrapped around them and pinned in different ways with a big safety pin. A belt was tied around the waist to keep the front of the dress closed. The dress was always worn down to the ankles. Like the men, they also wore a wool cloak or blanket but only when cold.

The women, daughters or female slaves made their own clothes. They died them bright colours or bleached them white. Jewellery was only worn by the rich.
The women also used perfume which they made by boling flowers and herbs.

Work

Ancient greeks worked as sailors and fishermen. they sold the fish they caught in markets. They also worked on fields of land where they grew crops and hunted.

Greeks were traders they often bought goods at one port and sold them on at another to make a big profit. they were also great craftsmen who made iron into tools, silver into coins, clay into pottery. marble into statues and timber into ships and houses.

Some Greeks were soliders who conquered cities and forced the people to pay.
Many of the sailors hired themselves and their ships out to fight other countries and some were pirates who got whatevere they could.

Some Greek men ran the goverment and were away alot from home.
The Greek women had limited freedom outside home their job was to run the house and give birth to children. they did not do any housework though as they had slaves to cook and clean for them.

Transport

The Ancient greeks used ships as there most popular mode of transport. they used cargo ships to transport and bring in goods. They used boats to fish. Then they had military ships which they used in war.
They also has wagons and charriots.

The greek gods and goddesses

The Greeks believed that the gods and godesses had human qualities. Religion was very important to the ancient greeks. They believed that the gods would take care of them when they died and that religion would make life better. They built temples which were the biggest and most beautiful.
They believed in lots of gods and godesses because they believed they controlled everything in their lives. The greeks would pray to the gods at home. There was also public shrines where they could pray and leave presents.
The greeks built temples in every town to show the gods that they were important. They put statues in the temples and they were looked after by priests.
The greek gods were called:-
Zeus (lord of the sky)
Poseidon (god of sea)
Hades (god of the underworld, ruled over dead)
Aphrodite (goddess of love, desire and beauty)
Hestia (goddess of the home)
Hera (goddess of marriage and childbirth)
Ares (god of war)
Apollo (god of music)
Artemis (huntsman of gods)
Athena (goddess of city, handicrafts and agriculture)
Hermes (messenger of the gods)
Hephaestus (god of fir and the forge)

The Ancient Greeks believed that all gods came form the Gaia (earth) and uranos (sky). The twelve most important gods and goddesses were believed to live at the top of Mount Olympus and the ruler of the gods was Zeus.

Olympic Games

The first Olympic games took place in 776 BC in the village of Olympia every 4 years. It was the most famous of games which took place in honour of the Greek god Zeus.

The greeks believed that the gods loved to see them fit and strong. To get on the good side of the gods they would eat right and oil their skin to create a beautiful body to compete in the athletics.

At the olympics the young men would train hard for the competition. They would meet at the olympic stadium and compete for prizez. The games was also a good way of training the men for their solider duties in the army.

The events that would take place at the olympics would be running, jumping, javelin and discus. Only men would take part in the Olympics and women were not allowed to watch.

Science

The Greeks were interested in science and wanted to organise the world and control the oceans and weather. From 600 BC Greek men observed the planets and the sun to try and find out how they work. Greek women were not allowed to study science.

The Greeks also looked at plants and animals and tried to put them into seperate groups.

Doctors also studied medicine and wrote important medical texts.

Famous Greeks

Famous greeks were

Archimedes who was a mathematician and engineer. He designed a machine called Archimedean screw which made water flow uphill. He could also tell fool's gold from real gold.

Pythagoras he was also a mathematician whi found out the pythagoras rule of right angled triangles.

Alexander The Great was the son of Phillip of Macedon. He was an excellent general and organiser who conquered more lands than anyone before him that is why he was named 'great'. He became the overall ruler of Greece.

Zoo joke

My friend Dave got a job at the zoo. He had a conversation with the boss and the boss said you might have to look in the red book if you want to know how much each anaimal costs if they die. Dave did not look in the book because he knew he wasn't going to let any animals die.
He was sweeping near the finch cage and he knocked it and a finch came down. Then he went to the red book and looked in it to see how much a finch would cost and it cost £1000. Dave threw the finch into the lion cage and the lion ate it up. He was sweeping in the chimps cage and two chimps were playing on the tyres and the chain snapped and the chimps died. Dave went to the red book again to see how much the chimps would cost and it was £5000. The chimps were then thrown into the lion's cage and a lion ate them up.
Next, Dave was cutting the grass on a ride on lawn mower which he crashed into a tree. A bee's nest fell down from the tree into the lawn mower's blade and chopped them all up. Dave, went to the red book to see how much the bees would cost and they cost £10 each. The total cost was one million pounds. The bees were thrown into the lion's cage by Dave and the lion ate them all up.
The next day, a new lion came to the zoo and asked the other lion how is the food? The other lion said I had yesterday, finch, chimps and mushy bees!
